The King's Lifeguard of Foot writ large

Chum Ian came round yesterday and took some photos of my burgeoning ECW collection. Here is King Charles' Lifeguard of Foot; I strongly recommend clicking on it for a larger view!

This is a big unit I put together just for fun; it is composed of most of the miniatures from four battalia of my "Oxford army". It is daunting to thing that, even so, it only contains around a third of the number of men in a historical ECW battalia. At 50cm wide, I fear it is too large to be practical for the gaming table.

All of the minis are lovely Bicornes, painted by Chris Meacham, David Imrie, Shaun McTague and myself. They are based in twelves on my ECW Batbases (which I really need to get in the shop!). The flags on this one are GMB.

The For King and Parliament rules themselves are close to completion; we have started the final proofing and I hope to get them out to a printer in two to three weeks, so on target for Salute.

  3. A wonderful looking unit, with a nice variety of poses adding to a feeling of a unit in action. As I'll be at Salute on another demo game, I hope to be able to pop along before the doors open to look at the game. Oh and I'll be picking up a copy of the rules:)

  8. Very impressive, been toying with large bases for my ecw, what size are your ones?

    1. Hi Troop of Shewe, funnily ennough I'm in the process of basing the... Troop of Shewe. :-) My bases are roughly 8.3 cm by 6.7 cm; they are designed to fit 12 bases to a 4 litre Really Useful box. The extra bit of depth is useful as it helps protect muskets.

  9. Lovely- My own KLF is a mere 48 figs strong and 32 cm frontage- at 4 ranks deep. Essex regt for the other side is 96 strong again 4 ranks deep and 48 cm frontage all in 28mm so I've a way to go but on the other hand both those units fight on the table
Never the less that is a serious KLF.

  10. Hi Andy, normally these deploy as two KLF 25cm battalia of 42 minis each and two other battalia of the Oxford army. The biggest ECW regiments often seem to have divided into two battalia to fight. BEst, Simon

  13. Superb. Now that is 'grand manner' gaming. Simon, I was wondering if the FKaP will include rules that indicate the direction of TtS 2?

  14. Hi Chris, yes some of the new rules are in FK&P- many of the ones that will apply to TtS are already in Even Stronger. I don't want V2 to be a shock; it'll be fairly close to TtS! but with more streamlined mechanics- and added Renaissance.
