Lord Lindsey, who wanted to deploy the Royalist infantry in the "Dutch" formation, resigned his command when he was overruled and the infantry was deployed in the "Swedish" formation which would match the above photograph. Regiments could be much larger or much smaller than a battalia, but 500 or so seems to have been a convenient size for battles.BigRedBathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05622983082204451158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6442916904677338541.post-27877669663858093112017-07-20T04:54:09.379-07:002017-07-20T04:54:09.379-07:00According to Wikipedia Battalia refers to both th...According to Wikipedia Battalia refers to both the formation of the entire army and they way in which individual units deployed for battle. see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battalia_(formation)

Great looking figures, but the formation pictured looks more like the Dutch or Swedish brigade formation than a Tertio.William Butlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12084322223324585325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6442916904677338541.post-21268357102550364512017-07-20T04:22:05.134-07:002017-07-20T04:22:05.134-07:00Solid progress sir!Solid progress sir!Millsyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17580692168847505881noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6442916904677338541.post-60539381166447188702017-07-20T03:47:30.061-07:002017-07-20T03:47:30.061-07:00That's long range planning! A butterfly like myself would find it hard to stay focused for such a long time.

I am a little confused about how the term battalia was used in the 17th century. Sometimes it seems to refer to a battalion/regiment and other times it seems to refer to a brigade or group of regiments. Maybe they just weren't consistent or maybe I'm easily confused. :)

At any rate, I'm very much looking forward to watching this project develop.
